4* Club Ride FROM MILFORD-ON-SEA to Castleman Trail and Poole
Thu 30 May 19 @ 09:30
Start from Milford-on-Sea (SO41 0PG) is at 0930, which will mean a 08:00 start if driving from Fleet. To avoid queuing for the Lyndhurst one way system, use Junction 2 of the M27 and follow the brown lorry signs to Lyndhurst.
The coffee stop: Cafe Velo Ringwood.
The lunch stop is a Wetherspoons. Not the best pub in Poole but huge (it used to be the main library) so we should get served relatively quickly. It is reasonably priced and there is plenty of seating outside.
Description by Mark, the ride leader:
A nice ride through the forest to Ringwood. After a cuppa at the local Velo cafe we will use the Castleman trail to get to Poole. www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/article/386532
This is an off road track - we have ridden once before on a road tandem (albeit with 38mm wide tyres). I will check what state it is in a few days before the ride. It's a lovely route first recommended to us by someone who rides in a New Forest based club. Gravel bikes would eat this. Mountain bikes would be ok if the tyres are not too wide (the other two thirds of the ride is on the road)
We'll come home along the sea front road where there is a 10mph speed limit - this only matters near the few busy bits near main entrances to the beach - the rest is usually deserted! The sea front finishes near Christchurch and we will make our way back by road from there to Milford.
After the ride we are happy to host tea and cakes before you make the journey home.
